The Mastercraftsmen recognition was first implemented by the Malaysian Handicraft Development Corporation in 1987. It aims to restore and preserve local handicraft skills and arts towards the sustainability of the national craft industry.
Mastercraftsmen is a craftsman who has a high level of expertise in the field of creation and craftsmanship of craft products with local identity.
Mastercraftsmen also plays an important role in efforts to preserve the national craft arts through their determination and willingness to pass on knowledge and skills to the next generation.
This recognition can also strengthen the image and role of figures as reference experts to elevate the national craft arts at the national and international levels.
